23-year-old Blanchett arrived at the Alex after being released by League One side Peterborough United and has spent the last month on trial which included playing three pre-season friendlies.
Harrow born Blanchett started his career with QPR as a youth player but did not make the grade and drifted into non-league scene.
He started playing for Hendon and then played for his home town club of Harrow Borough playing a full season with them before joining Cambridge City. During his season stay at Cambridge City he joined Premiership side Liverpool on a two-week trial but it was Peterborough United who signed him for an undisclosed fee in March 2007.
Blanchett only made 7 appearances for The Posh during his three years at London Road and was loaned out last season to Hereford United for three months. When his loan spell ended at Edgar Street on New Years Day he was then loaned out to Blue Square Premiership side AFC Wimbledon for the rest of the season.
His contract at London Road expired at the end of June and he joined the Railwaymen on trial, after a successful trial he signed a 12-month deal which would be looked at come Christmas.
Blanchett told the official website 'I am ecstatic with the contract and words cannot describe what it means to sign a deal at a club like Crewe.
'It is brilliant for me and although I knew there were other clubs interested once I knew that Crewe were interested there was only place I wanted to go.'
