Billy too pricey for Bluebirds?

It has been reported that Cardiff owner Sam Hammam has watched Billy Jones for the second time at Gresty Road this season. It is only 12 weeks before the transfer window opens and with Billy's contract due up in the summer teams may come in for him during the January transfer window.

With Cardiff leading The Championship Bluebirds owner Hammam and manager (Dave Jones) may look to strengthen the team as they try and push for the Premiership.

With Cardiff heavily in debt could they really afford Billy Jones? Well with Cardiff selling Cameron Jerome to Birmingham in the summer it seems that Dave Jones still has a large chunk of that money to reinforce his team. Although Cardiff City have brought in a lot players in the summer the majority have been on free transfers.

A board meeting is scheduled this week and high on the agenda will be Billy Jones refusal to accept an improved offer by the club. The board may decide to sell one of their stars during January and a fee of £750k-£1m could prove a big enough carrot for the board to accept.

On the other hand Jones could decide to see out his remaining few months of his contract and plump a better deal in the summer although Crewe would be entitled to compensation via a tribunal.

Crewe boss Dario Gradi "Sam (Hammam) has been up to watch a few of our games, but I told him he didn't have the money to buy any of our players," said Gradi, who revealed there has been no firm interest in the youngster yet”

"No-one (else) has spoken to me about Billy. I think the fact there were so many scouts on Saturday was down to the lack of games in the Championship.
"We've not had any interest, but to be honest I'm not really going to be talking too much about it as what will happen will happen anyway”

Gradi also added "We have no desire to speak to his agent, but we've spoken to Billy and his dad, while Steve Holland (youth manager) has also had some discussions with Billy himself. But I don't expect him to change his mind, although you can always be hopeful.”

"He has been given a written offer, but I don't think the chairman has had a reply. There is not much more that we can do than look for a buyer in the transfer window."
