30-year-old Baudet was offered a new contract to stay at the Alex but an offer to play in the MLS has swayed him to move across the Atlantic and join the Colorado Rapids.
Frenchman Baudet joined the Railwaymen in July 2006 from Notts County on a free transfer where he had made 81 apperances for the Magpies netting eleven goals in two years.
Baudet has been a fans favorite at the club during his time and netted the player of the year award last season with some impressive displays in the heart of the defence.
This season has been a bit of an indifferent season for the Grenoble born defender with some poor displays by the Frenchman earlier on in the season.
Thordarson had hoped that his former skipper at Notts County would stay at Gresty Road but the lure of a two-year deal in such a major league with an option of another two-years was too good to refuse at his point of his career.
