Barnsley boss Andy Ritchie has added Eddie Johnson to his shopping list as the Tykes look to strengthen as they look to consolidate themselves in the Championship. Johnson was supposed to return to training this week at Reaseheath but failed to show up and now looks set for discussions with the Tykes.
The 21-year-old striker had been on a season's long loan at the Alex last season making 23 appearances and scoring five goals in the process. During the summer Eddie was released by club Manchester United and that prompted Dario Gradi to offer the Chester born striker a two-year deal. It now seems that a former Man Utd player and now manager of Barnsley Andy Ritchie has made an approach via the player's agent. Ritchie said “We will be sitting down this week for talks with Eddie's agent. They are all going to be preliminary discussions so we will have to wait and see what happens”.
Eddie did turn the chance down to join Hull City during the January transfer window and this after both Hull and Man Utd had agreed a fee, instead Eddie wanted to stay and fight for the cause at Gresty Road.
Meanwhile Barnsley are still awaiting confirmation from Steve Foster after the Tykes had offered the out of contract player a two-year-deal.
