Watford were on course to having the best defensive record in the league on Saturday but a Steve Jones goal and a Neil Sorvel double saw their chances ruined inside 40 minutes.
However, Crewe's first clean sheet in 13 games won all the plaudits. Up against the division's top scorer, Danny Webber, and our defence conceding 22 goals in just ten matches, the odds were stacked against us claiming a clean sheet. Billy Jones though shone, once again, as he marked Webber out of the game and saw Crewe to a 3-0 victory. Surely no coincidence that Billy's two games at centre half have resulted in wins?
Assistant boss Neil Baker had strong praise for the 17-year-old following Saturday's win. He told CreweAlex.net;
"I thought Billy was magnificent all afternoon. It was a fantastic performance and I actually thought the sponsors got it wrong for the Man-of-the-Match award. David (Vaughan) was magnificent, as he has been for most of the season, but Billy was outstanding.
"To hold Danny Webber, who is a player on the top of his game, was an excellent performance. Having said that he did give Webber one chance at the end, and so he needs to keep on improving and make sure he concentrates for the full 90 minutes."
