Stand in manager Neil Baker blasted Dean Ashton for his performance. The whole team were awful as Crewe lost 1-0 to 10 man Watford. Baker said on Radio Stoke that he was disgusted with him...

"There was certainly one player out there I was disgusted with, and I've told him. I can't do a great deal about it because I've got nobody to replace him with.

"Im not sure he's taken it on board, Im not even sure if it bothers him, it certainly bothers me.

"You hope the forwards can make something but that was never the case today. Our forwards were pretty woeful. You can talk about talent and ability, and they've both got it, but there wasn't sign of it today.

"I think i would have been more popular if I had bought Dean Ashton off. He should have come off but he's still as likely as anyone to get the goal.

"He didn't compete, he didn't try and that's not the first time that's happened, and Im not sure it'll be the last time either. He's been called up for England U-21s, I'd like to pull him out because his performance today was a disgrace."

After 4 games, 4 defeats and no goals with perofrmance's getting worse by the game Baker was put forward the question, why not get out the cheque book.

"I think we need to go and get someone from outside the club. It's up to me, Steve and our scouts to find the right people and whether it's by paying money or loans, we'll have to see."
