Crewe went into half-time 1-0 up with a goal coming from right-back Danny Shelly and on the hour mark the Railwaymen extended that lead when Alsager born striker Matt Freeman netted.
Though pressure from Chelsea paid off when Jacopo Sala netted 15 minutes from time and the Blues comeback was complete when Ben Gordon netted with seven minutes left to ensure the fightback was complete.
