Smart signed a month to month contract at the start of the season after arriving on a free transfer. Injury troubles have kept him out for the past 5 weeks and has only made 4 late sub appearances in a Alex shirt but impressions in training has led Dario to offer the Scotsman a contract till the end of the season.
His current contract would allow him to leave the club within hours if he found a better deal but he will be an Alex player for the rest of the season to help in the strikers department.
Neil Baker admitted Smart was the best option available: "I don't think we're going to get anyone more experienced at this stage of the season. And we've not really had a replacement for Dean so far and Allan fits the bill."
Fellow Scotsman Andrew Barrowman has returned to Birmingham City after less than a month on loan at Gresty Road. The 18 year old impressed a majority of Crewe fans but Dario felt he wasn't getting enough goals to challenge for a starting place. Barrowman played 3 games whilst on loan and scored one goal. He has been left out of the last two games and Dario told him he wouldn't be involved on Saturday and with his loan initially ending on Wednesday next week he was allowed to return.
