Foster and Moses in the promised land

Following the departures of Efe Sodje and Dave Walton, the Alex defence was wearing thin, and the quiet summer signing of Huddersfield centre-half Adi Moses did not promise much considering his three relegations in the past five years. He was not particularly a household name amongst the fans, but Dario Gradi and his backroom team obviously saw something in him.

The first we saw of Moses was during the pre-season outing at Jackson Avenue against Nantwich Town, and he appeared to be a little shaky, and I was sceptical as to his credentials for the First Division.

However, he was outstanding against both Liverpool and Everton as Crewe's pre-season went from strength to strength, and put in a solid performance away at Tranmere in the 5-0 victory.

Steve Foster, as we know is a special talent, and has shown week in week out for the best part of eighteen months why he is so highly rated. He was immense last season and built up a good understanding with both Walton and Richard Walker, and his signing of a three year deal was massive for the club. He is a classy player and he continues to progress into a mature defender every game.

The one thing that I believe the likes of Foster and Walker lack in is communication and sorting the back four out. Walton excelled at this, and we desperately needed someone with the experience and communication skills of Walts. Moses appears to have these skills. He is 28, in his peak, and has experience of the Premiership, Division One and Division Two. He has loads
more pace than Walton too!

Both centre-halves have been impeccable this season, and Rich Walker has a job on his hands to oust Adi or Foz, which says a lot considering 'the Doorman's' massive strides forward last season.

With the recent acquisition of left back Anthony Tonkin, our defence is beginning to take shape, with the ever reliable David Wright on the right and the likes of Walker, Chris McCready and Michael Higdon ever ready to step up.

After witnessing Moses last night against Walsall I saw first hand at what he brings to our defence. He was in constant communication with the other three defenders and I can see why Dario brought him in. He has shined in every competitive game this season, and he and Foz compliment each other no end.

We have had three clean sheets this season out of five, and a lot of the credit must go to the centre-halves. Keeping ex-Premiership players such as Marcus Bent, his namesake Darren and Paul Merson at bay says it all.

Keep it up lads!
