This Seasons Stars

Ben Rix

Rix is an example of both hard work, from Rix, and excellent coaching from Dario and his staff. Over pre-season Rix was transformed. Skinny and not very strong on the ball he’s turned into a midfield maestro. starting the season strong on the ball and tackling anything in sight. Giving 100% he makes sure if he gives the ball away that he retrieves it. Against Wimbledon Rix tackled, run, crossed, closed down all in the glaring 100 degrees sun. Rix I say is ready to become a star and hopefully this season he will be that star in midfield.

Justin Cochrane

Cochrane was brought from Hayes for £50k and what an absolute bargain. Still only 21 and he’s already tipped for big things. Signed after 4 or so months on trial it makes you wonder why it took us so long to sign him and why he wasn’t snapped up. Tough tackling in the centre of midfield he does the simple things, well, simple. He doesn’t do 30 yard pass’ or try and take it round several defenders. He get the ball with good tackling, while crippling the opposition, and then gives it to the creative players like Ashton, Lunt and Jones. He has given us that something extra and along with Rix he’s taken the weight of Brammer’s shoulders to lead the midfield. Cochrane could feature strongly to help us stay up and keeping the midfield strong.

David Vaughan

Im not one of those who believes we’re desperate for Vaughan to be moved out of left back and onto the left wing, see the message board. I don’t think his talent is wasted in defence as I think he’s a great left back. Whilst he can change the game when further forward, like on Tuesday, I reckon he’s the best left back we could get for the job. Wherever he plays for the season he’s going to be a star.

Dean Ashton

He looks on form. He's fitter than ever, with a few stone off he looks in excellent form. Lazy isn’t the word – people are just getting confused with the word great. It isn’t Deano’s style to run tirelessly to get the ball, hold it up and score little tap ins. Dean wants the ball to his feet and when he gets it to his feet he is magic. Against Tranmere he was making great runs and score 3 goals, although he says two, then despite the disappointment of missing out against Wimbledon he returned with a goal, albeit a penalty. It’ll have given him a boost and I just think it’s his season after a few seasons of hype.

Steve Foster

Foz is already the rock in defence after 2 solid seasons. After two games this season it looks set to continue. Cool calm defending has won the praise from all Crewe fans and this season he has the chance to really shine against the top(ish) players. Still only 22, like many players, Foz seems to have been around for ages and he plays like he’s been at it for years. It could be the season he attracts the attention he deserves, for his tireless great work at centre back.
