Lack Of Ambition, Or Just Too Much Ambition?

It’s known now that Hulse just wants to play at a higher level with a bigger team, it’s what every footballer wants. Some fans just aren’t satisfied, cynical ones amongst us question if Dario did everything he could to get Hulse to stay. Well without doubt Dario tried as hard as he could to get Hulse to sign a new contract, and disappointment shone in his interview with ‘CreweAlexWorld’.

Simply offering Hulse a thick pay packet would have kept Hulse, you say. Maybe so but then that thick pay packet would have to be duplicated for the, possibly, more important members like Brammer, Lunt and Ince. It would soon put a massive strain on the wage bill and finances and before long we’ll be up sh*t creek.

Should he have kept them?
Should he have kept them?

Ok, so Hulse isn’t the only player to be lost for next season. Jack and Walton leave as well but face it, they’re both going on 31 and whilst helping us to Division One it means nothing when they’re useless in Division One. Jack could offer pace and silky skills to us next season but before long he’d have given up or be giving the new treatment table a good testing. Walton, well is quite frankly past it – his pace resembled a snail, or a dead snail. If we were to keep them then they didn’t deserve any longer than a year on their contract, nor did they deserve the wage they were once on. Along with that the attitude they both showed at the end of the season quite simply was disgraceful. Walton wasn’t seen again after the QPR match and Jack didn’t bother returning to the club after the last game of the season. Neither wanted to stay, they just wanted to see what else was on offer – if there wasn’t anything then they always had a year at Crewe, or so they thought.

Sodje has also been told to leave, where do I start?
Liability, waste of wages, big headed, 4th choice centre back. Since the day he walked out 30 minutes before a game, because he wasn’t starting, him and Dario haven’t been getting on. He isn’t bigger than the club, and whatever wages he’s costing the club will be happily freed when he leaves within the next 12 months.

So where’s the lack of ambition? We’ve got one player who won’t stay unless we were to break the bank and we’ve got 3 players whose attitudes towards the club have nothing but stunk.

The ambition factor isn’t with the management; the club is being run better than most in the nationwide leagues. Take a look at Burnley, they released 12 players at the end of the season and still had room to sell one or two… they’re going for a complete revamp. It’s what Dario wants to go for, on a much smaller scale.

By the start of the new season Neil Baker and Dario have promised 3 or 4 new signings, look at recent signing’s like Brammer and Jones, they’re now two of our most important players. Have faith in Dario and the backroom staff to replace those being released before shouting off about any lack of ambition and before you start writing our chance’s of survival off, we aren’t even past ‘close season’ yet.

With the dead wood now being removed, and getting money for Hulse while we can, we have a much brighter future. The average age will be down massively with 4 over 30’s leaving ASAP. The academy is still turning out the youngsters like Kyle Wilson, Billy Jones and Matthew Platt, along with the recent youngsters promoted from the academy like James Robinson, Stuart Tomlinson, Paul Edwards, Alex Morris, Adam Yates, Ian Jeffs, Tom Betts, Carl Frost and Michael Higdon.

The ambition is there, it may not be the ambition where we spend £5 million on star names within a few months, while offer £10,000 a month on wages. It’s ambition where we go with the flow of the youngsters and a couple of star names... as ever. if you don’t like it, then tough. It’s been
Crewe for a good 15 years and no doubt continue to be Crewe for a good few years to come.

Keep the faith. Dean Ashton and Dave Brammer will no doubt sign their new contracts soon enough – don’t rush them, they’re probably enjoying the sun abroad. Have faith in Dario to bring in younger, and better, replacements to those who are leaving. Only start criticising when we’re 10 games into the season without a left back, only one striker and Rob Hulse has only been sold for £100k.

For now though….. Keep the faith.
