Dario's Story Last Night

The programme had interviews with David Platt, Rob Jones and Danny Murphy. They all spoke well of him, Platty said "...what Dario has done is worth four European cups..." while Danny Murphy talked how Dario made him as a person and not just as a player, calling him a father figure.

The programme started with his times at Wimbledon and Crystal Palace. Dario talked about his promotion with Wimbledon saying it was all down to his management which got them promoted, though felt the players were at fault for the immediate relegation. Some arrogance coming out of Dario - some people never knew he had.

The programme went onto how he was appointed as Crewe manager with Norman Rowlinson, Crewe director and former chairman, mentioned how Dario rang him up asking why he hadn't had a interview. when he did get an interview he was appointed instantly.

The programme talked about the likes of David Platt, Rob Jones, Danny Murphy, Rob Savage and Neil Lennon how they were sold. They somehow missed Seth Johnson - the biggest sale in Crewe's history - and went straight to modern day in a wink. Showing Dario training the team and the team talk after the Cardiff game.

It ended with Dario talking about how he never has time to be away from football and if he wanted to go for a game of golf he would be wonder "how are the kids doing". He spoke how he needs to find time to do things outside of Crewe.

The programme was squashed together and missed major parts of Dario's 20 years out. 25 minutes was never going to be enough and to give the people over the north west, or nationwide, a proper view of what Dario has done for Crewe and football in general a series would have to be made. Maybe it's something for the future when Dario retires.

The programme did though give Crewe more credit. Pictures of the team in the 80's training in a old tatty hall with jumpers for goal posts showed how Crewe had grown. Especially as it was followed by pictures of the impressive soccer dome and the new gym. Dario said it was the best set of training facilities he had seen, and that included Manchester United's.

So all in all a good program and publicity for Crewe and maybe gained Dario more respect, if that's possible, but as I've said it was limited content.
