Crewe - true promotion contenders

At the end of the Rotherham home game last season, I remember saying to my friends: 'we'll waltz Division Two.'

Come 5:45 on August 11th, at Sixfields I wasn't too sure. It was a dire performance. There was no imagination, and letting in a goal in the last five minutes was sickening (especially to Gabbiadini). The Notts County farce backed these thoughts up. I felt sick after that game.

We finally got a steady foothold in the League, after a home win to Colchester and then going unbeaten until the end of September to Cardiff at Ninian Park. We should have won that one as well.

After a few losses, we have now gone on this stonking unbeaten run, which has produced some exquisite performances. Dean Ashton has found his very best form, and the side is a far cry from the comedy of errors of the end of last season. The left side of the team is really powerful with Tierney and Vaughan probably the best left-sided combination in the League. We've hit a level of consistency, which will be hard to break, as the side seems to have a sense of togetherness, which was so absent last year.

We've got a huge game on Sunday - I can't see us losing. Deano has to start, even if Hulse is ready for a return. He is scoring for fun at the minute, and a few on Sunday would be great. Despite the attractive football being played at CW2, I don't think we have hit top form yet. Wigan haven't had their bad patch yet, unlike us. I don't think we've hit top gear yet, there's more to come from the likes of Sorvel and maybe Lunt (even though he's been great over the past few weeks).

A new year purple patch could propel us to the top of the League, and if all goes to plan, our resilient nature and great away form will keep us there, IF we get there.

I'm not going to predict anything, but I wouldn't be surprised if don't go unbeaten for the rest of season, if the current form is kept up.
