Manchester City Preview - Worthington Cup

Manchester City - Crewe Alexandra

Anelka - Will he silent us?
It wouldn't be a Crewe season without us putting ourselves up against some premiership team. Tuseday sees us meet a team who were in our division last season but now we find ourselves two divisions apart. Kevin keegan has done wonders to CIty and brought players like Anelka, Benarbia and Huckerby while giving more exposure to the first team to one of England's most promising youngsters in the name of Shaun Wright-Phillips. If City are to be defeated it will be a win that happens once in a blue moon?

Last time at Maine Road
Last time we played City it was on a cold Tuseday night which was the rearranged date after the game was called off at 2:00pm on the afternoon of kick off 3 days before christmas - many weren't happy with Paul Dansons decision. Anyway the match ended 3-1 despite matching them for a fair bit of the match. It saw Benarbia score one very good goal, it saw Jack score one just as good, Sodje keeping Huckerby quiet and Goater nicking it for them infront of a packed Gresty Road. Before that it was 5-2 to City at Maine Road, it was a scoreline which flattered City. We held them 2-2 till the 84th minute when they turned into their 'no more Mr nice guy' attitude.

Team news is the same as last week, Welsh sensation David Vaughan has had to have a second operation on his knee and will be out till November. Wayne Collins has started training again but will have to play out a couple of reserve games before his return. Chris McCready is to have a operation on his hernia problem and John Miles is yet to recover from his calf strain he picked up at Port Vale in the last round. Ashton had a dissappointing game on the left on Saturday and Dario could put Rix in his place after a little rest. We could also see the return of Dave Walton in place of Richard Walker.

Manchester City had Anelka, who only played for Real Madrid a year or so ago, Huckerby, Wright Phillips, Berkovic, Schmeichel and Goater all on the pitch on Saturday and will most likley be on the pitch again tommorow. Keegan won't be taking us lightly when he sees this competition as the easiest way into Europe. Will he have to find anoher way after tommorow night?

Sequence statistics:
Man City Not won in 5 games.
Drawn Twice in the last 4 games
CreweOnly defeated once on the road this season.
Kept 7 clean sheets in 10 games.
