For those making the 200 miles trip darrn South there is going to be worry about wheather the Alex can regain form. Over the last couple of games we've thrown away 2-0 leads, that is not promotion form. You've got to remain positive though. Barnsley play Cardiff - Barnsley have already beat Cardiff this season. So a slip up from Cardiff there and a win for us would put us back in the driving seat. Also some haven't learnt from last season. While Cardiff do have a game in hand we had 5 games in hand towards the end of last season..... What good did they do? Games in hand mean nothing till they're won.
So Brentford. Murphy floats it in, Macauley heads down and there's Shaun Smith!!!!!!! ... and all that. The Bees last season, under Steve Coppell, were so unfortunate to not to get promotion with Reading taken them to the final day of the season for second spot in a thriller at Griffin Park. Brentford needed a win for 2nd spot and Reading only needed a draw. After Brentford went 1-0 ahead on the 50th minute they looked as though they might just have held out but they were rocked when Cureton equalised and Reading held out. Brentford faced the play-offs and after getting past huddersfield they faced the clayheads. They lost 2-0 at Cardiff.
Last time we met we beat them 2-1. Rob Hulse raced clear and curled it round the keeper for the first goal than after they went down to 10 men they somehow equalised through Sonko. 5 minutes to go and Hulse sent a looping header into the net only 2 minutes after brentford went down to 9 men. Vital 3 points. That game started a good 10 game unbeaten run with 9 wins and 1 draw which saw us climb to where we are.
Since then Brentford have done nothing but slide. Sitting 13th and 8 points off the play offs. They have played 2 or 3 games less than anyone this season. So the game tomorrow is as important for them to kick their season off as it is to get out of our little stutter.
Tomorrow will see the General, Dave Walton, back in the heart of the defence in place of Chris McCready. In midfield Captain Brammer has picked up a groin strain and Ben Rix looks set to get his chance. Paul Tierney is still out with a knock that kept him out on Tuseday. That will see the following line up: Ince, Vaughan, Wright, Walton, Rix, Lunt, Sorvel, Jack, Hulse and Jones.
Brentford new from BrentfordMad. Bees' manager Wally Downes, chasing a first league win since the 1-0 triumph against Mansfield Town 1-0 on 28th December, will have virtually a full squad to choose from for the visit of high flying Crewe Alexandra, to Griffin Park tomorrow.
Mark McCammon and Martin Rowlands played for just over an hour in the reserves 2-0 defeat against Norwich City at Carrow Road on Wednesday night, and both are available for selection. McCammon had missed the trip to Mansfield Town the previous evening because of a one match suspension, whilst Rowlands has been struggling recently with a calf problem.
Meanwhile, Kevin O'Connor has reported fit as well, and the recently suspended duo of Jamie Fullarton and Stephen Hughes, who both returned in the goalless draw at Mansfield Town are also available.
The one doubt concerns Leo Roget, who continues to have hamstring problems.
Prediction : Crewe Alexandra>:
