Mike Newell Up For Luton Job

Mike Newell's career totals 13 clubs in 20 years... all the while Dario has been here.
Newell started his career at the Alex when he signed in Semptember 1983, being one of Dario's first signings after he was released by Liverpool. He however only stayed for 3 months and 3 games before moving onto Wigan. Newell racked up over football 425 appearances for 9 different clubs including Blackburn and West Ham and made six money transfers which were worth £3.5million before he rejoined the Alex in 1999.

He played out the 1998-1999 season as the Alex made another great escape in Division One, he started just one match. Newell has since played for Blackpool and Doncaster before retiring from the game. Last year though he returned as he took over Hartlepool after Chris Turner abadoned the monkey hangers for Sheffield Weds. Hartlepool were 15 points clear at the top of Division Three when Newell took over but he managed with his managerial skills to lose that lead and surrender the championship to Rushden and Diamonds. Newell was sacked less than a month ago.

Now though he could return to football in a unique fashion. The new owners of Luton Town have certainly made the Hatters into "Mad Hatters"(Sorry.). After taking over the club they sacked the manager who took them to mid table in Division Two from mid table in Div 3 in just two seasons - Joe Kinnear. They then announced they would be willing to merge with Wimbledon MK, now they are letting their fans vote who they want as manager.

A short list of 3 managers have been drawn up, they are, former Stoke City manager & Mr Loyalty, Steve Cotterill. Mike Newell, obviously and.... Joe Kinnear, even after being sacked. all the club are asking their fans to do is phone a specific number to vote for their choice of manager. What a shambles, indeed. Though with so many arseholes behind the scene's of football clubs these days - is it that surprising?

Favourite for the managerial job is ofcourse Joe Kinnear.
